Die in Portland, Oregon lebende Künstlerin Kendall Lujan veröffentlicht am 21. Februar 2025 ihr erstes Album Lucky Penny. Nach ihrem selbstbetitelten Debüt-EP (Frühjahr 2023), das auf Spotify- und Apple-Music-Playlists vertreten war, erhielt sie Aufmerksamkeit von NPR’s Tiny Desk, MTV, Rolling Stone Deutschland und dem John Lennon Songwriting Contest. 2024 wurde sie von Willamette Weekly zu einer der besten Newcomer-Bands Portlands gewählt und trat bereits mit Künstlern wie Amos Lee, Frazey Ford, Allie Crow Buckley, Early James und The Magnetic Fields auf. Lucky Penny verbindet Jazz, Folk, Bossa Nova und Indie-Rock. Eingespielt wurde das Album mit Micah Hummel (Drums), Colin Schmidt (Bass) und Alex Milsted (Piano) im Map Room Studio, produziert von Dominik Schmidt. Die erste Single Goodbyes (März 2024) behandelt Verlust, Trennung und persönliches Wachstum. Lujan beschreibt sie als Erinnerung daran, dass trotz Abschieden die richtigen Menschen bleiben. Der Song ist in der Serie Long Bright River (Peacock, mit Amanda Seyfried) zu hören. Support: Intim, sphärisch, zugleich groovy und mitreißend. Melissa maHoney schafft es mit ihrem unverwechselbaren Sound ein bunt gemischtes Publikum in ihren Bann zu ziehen. Neben dem vertrauten Setting von Gesang und Gitarre, improvisiert Melissa in ihrem aktuellen Programm In Spirals mithilfe einer Loopstation. Ein vielschichtiges Klanggebilde entsteht, welches die Musikerin in Echtzeit allmählich umformt und verändert.
