As we walk slowly-paced into a cold moonlit forest, an echo of a woman’s voice begins to materialize in the near-distance. As she whispers her unsettles, we find us at the crossroads of social conventions and expectations which end up being dragged as a burden. As the night transfigures, we get to reflect upon compassion and love as primal and transformative forces constituting and defining human relations.
Verklärungen is an interdisciplinary performance and contemporary choreographic adaptation revolving around the string sextet „Verklärte Nacht“ Op. 4 by the Austrian composer Arnold Schönberg. Based in the homonym poem by Richard Dehmel, this work of programmatic music carefully and precisely draws before us (as if in a symbolism painting), the intricate details of both the dark and subtle landscape and the complex emotional turmoil of the characters.
Music works by Schönberg, Bach and Byrd.
