Billie Holiday setzt mit ihrer Musik bis heute Maßstäbe. So auch Michael Gibbs, der als Komponist moderner Bigbandliteratur an der Seite von Pat Metheny, Gary Burton und vielen mehr auf eine international hell erstrahlende Karriere blicken kann. Bereits in den 1960er-Jahren, als Student am Berklee College of Music, war Gibbs fasziniert von Lady Day (der Spitzname Billie Holidays) und schrieb mehrere Arrangements zu den Songs, die sie während ihres tragisch kurzen Lebens bekannt gemacht hat. Gemeinsam mit Michael Gibbs wird Ed Puddick das Orchester durch das Konzert begleiten und im zweiten Set Originalkompositionen von Michael Gibbs dirigieren.
